About Me

Hello There!

I'm Dr. Mike Tung.

This is My Story:

I'm (he/him) a Naturopathic Doctor, Entrepreneur, and lifelong Student of holistic medicine. I help people harmonize the complexities of their health - physical, mental, social, and spiritual – so that they can live their best lives.

I'm passionate about delivering holistic healthcare from a client-centered, evidence-based perspective.

I believe that even though people are categorized by symptoms, every person has a unique story that needs to be heard so they can truly heal.

My clients are empowered to be the heroes of their health stories while I guide them with strategy, organization, and tools for success.

Why I Became a Naturopathic Doctor

I know what it’s like to be told, “Everything is normal, no treatments are available”. Since I was a child, I suffered from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, experiencing stabbing pain and poor digestion multiple times a week.

It was obvious that the mainstream healthcare paradigm is missing important aspects of health, so I aspired to become a doctor to bridge these gaps.

During my undergrad at Queen's University, I learned how to manage my chronic illness with nutrition and calming down my nervous system, which pulled me towards the naturopathic healthcare paradigm.

My Training

At Queen's University, I completed a Bachelor of Science Honours with a major in Psychology and minor in Philosophy so that I could study how the mind and stress influence health – components that were completely neglected by my doctors.

To become a Naturopathic Doctor, I studied at The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). As part of my clinical internship, I was accepted into the highly competitive 12-month Mental Health Focused Shift.

This shift focused exclusively on the evaluation and integrative management of mental health. I was trained to hold space for critical conversations about how stress, T/trauma, adverse childhood experiences, culture, relationships, identity, and meaning influence health.

My techniques draw from the latest in brain science, which include Pain Reprocessing Therapy, Mind-Body Medicine, Motivational Interviewing, Lifestyle Medicine, and other Naturopathic treatments to engage the root causes of symptoms.

When I'm Not Being a Doctor

The entrepreneurial spirit is at the heart of how I provide value to the world. Outside of clinical practice, I'm a business owner, co-founding a clothing/events company with my brother in 2014. What started as a side hustle for business experience and creative expression evolved into a hub that fosters the geek community in Toronto.

I'm a lover of stories, so I regularly play Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop roleplaying games. During my free time, I read as much as I can to keep up with thought leaders. My German Shepherd Macha takes me for long walks so we can enjoy nature or the latest podcasts. I'm also a huge foodie, especially for weird menu items and unique cocktails.

I believe that ultimately, we all want to live a good life. Although this looks different for everyone, fundamentally it requires fulfillment, happy times, supportive relationships, connection to something bigger than oneself, and being healthy so that all the above are possible.

I acknowledge that I live in and work from the shared traditional territory and home of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Huron-Wendat, and Mississaugas of the Credit. I honour Indigenous peoples’ role as stewards of our land since time immemorial, and I am grateful for the opportunity to build a life in this beautiful homeland.

I also acknowledge that naturopathic medicine has had a role in colonizing many ancient medical practices, including Indigenous and Asian wisdom, and I strive to continuously educate myself on these matters.
