Hello There! I'm Dr. Mike Tung.

This is My Story:

I'm a Naturopathic Doctor who has lived with chronic pain my whole life. I'm passionate about helping people heal their own minds and bodies so they can live their best lives.

I believe that even though people are often categorized by their symptoms, every person has a unique story that needs to be heard so they can truly heal.

I provide holistic, client-centered care that's grounded in evidence and real-world experience - especially yours.

My job is to empower you to be the hero of your health story while I guide you with strategy, optimization, and practical tools for success.

Why I Became a Naturopathic Doctor

I know what it’s like to be bounced around our broken healthcare system. As a child, I suffered from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, with stabbing pain and poor digestion multiple times a week.

Despite seeing many doctors and specialists, I kept hearing that everything is "normal" and there were no treatment options for me.

I realized there are huge gaps in our healthcare system, so I made it my mission to become a different kind of doctor. I needed to figure out the missing pieces of the healthcare puzzle to help people with “medically unexplainable” illnesses like mine.

During my undergrad at Queen's University, I learned how to manage my chronic illness with nutrition and regulating my nervous system, which pulled me towards the naturopathic model of care.

My Training

At Queen's University, I completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy so that I could learn everything I could about the mind-body connection - an obvious factor in my own illness, and completely neglected in my medical care.

To become a Naturopathic Doctor, I trained at The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). During my clinical internship, I was selected for a highly competitive 12-month Mental Health Focused Shift, which specialized in the evaluation and integrative management of mental health.

There, I was trained to hold space for critical conversations about how stress, T/trauma, adverse childhood experiences, culture, relationships, identity, and meaning influence health.

Over the years, my approach has continued to evolve with the latest in brain science, which includes Pain Reprocessing Therapy, Mind-Body Medicine, Motivational Interviewing, Lifestyle Medicine, and other Naturopathic treatments that target the root causes of symptoms.

When I'm Not Being a Doctor

The entrepreneurial spirit is at the heart of how I bring value into the world. Outside of clinical practice, I'm a business owner, having co-founded a clothing and events company with my brother in 2014. What started as a side hustle for business experience and creative expression evolved into a hub that fosters the geek community in Toronto.

I'm a lover of stories, so I regularly play Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop role-playing games. I find character-building super fun and rewarding - whether it's in D&D, building Magic: The Gathering decks, or real life.

In my free time, I read as much as I can, work out, and spend time with family. My German Shepherd, Macha, takes me for long walks so we can enjoy nature or the latest podcasts. I'm also a huge foodie, always trying interesting menu items and creative drinks.

I go to church every Sunday with my partner, and singing there has given me more confidence in my voice. Spirituality is important to me, especially in how it fosters connection, reflection, and gratitude.

I believe that ultimately, we all want to live a good life. Although this looks different for everyone, fundamentally it requires fulfillment, happy times, supportive relationships, connection to something bigger than oneself, and being healthy so that all the above are possible.

I acknowledge that I live in and work from the shared traditional territory and home of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Huron-Wendat, and Mississaugas of the Credit. I honour Indigenous peoples’ role as stewards of our land since time immemorial, and I am grateful for the opportunity to build a life in this beautiful homeland.

I also acknowledge that naturopathic medicine has had a role in colonizing many ancient medical practices, including Indigenous and Asian wisdom, and I strive to continuously educate myself on these matters.
